Chateaux
Chateau de PuyMartin
Situated just 8km north-west of Sarlat Château de PuyMartin, like many of the castles in the region, played its key role during the Hundred Years War, and then later in the Wars of Religion. It is situated on a steep hill with commanding views over the countryside.
The Château de Castelnaud
Standing high over the Dordogne valley, with stunning views of the Châteaux Beynac and Marqueyssac and the medieval village of La Roque-Gageac.
Once a fortress it is now given over entirely to displaying the art of warfare in the Middle Ages. Inside, it has a unique private collection of arms, armour,and reconstructions of siege catapults as well as furniture from the period.
Chateau de Commarque
The Forgotten Valley – this area inhabited from prehistoric to Medieval times holds a wealth of history.
In 1968, Hubert de Commarque bought his ancestors' ruins and undertook the consolidation of the most damaged parts. Since 1994 there have been successive phases of consolidation and restoration.
Chateau des Milandes
Built in 1489, this beautiful residence was home to the French artisocratic Caumont family. The chateau is now more famously know as the home of the music hall star Josephine Baker.
